However just like the two machines up top. If I really need data I can grab it off it or I can store some files on DropBox that I often grab/store. I do have a pogoplug on my network with a USB stick plugged into it that is 8gig. Yes it is very cool to pick up my phone or a laptop and get into my network and control things, but honestly I've learned years ago that you give them an inch and they will take the mile. There is nothing that is that inportant that I can't do at home or do later.

Remote access to my Download machine? Nope not going to happen. Remote access to my unRAID machine? Nope not going to happen. Nothing is mapped in a read/write capacity. Why seperate? Well if my Download machine gets hacked or dies it has no ties to my unRAID machine other than I use some custom scripts that I copy files to my unRAID machine.

Personally I have to machines on my network that I utilize a lot.ĭownload - My BitTorrent machine running windows and some basic apps that I need it to run. For that matter, I'd probably say the same about the other applications you mentioned. unMENU was never designed to be "secure" and probably cannot be made secure. it would be trivial to break into your server if all you did was open up the ports to allow remote access through your router. UnRAID is not even close to being secure. Unless you've set up a VPN, you have allowed every hacker in the world access to your server and your data. Yes, (and I'm being serious) un-do what you've done. Is there anything special I need to do to ensure my network is secure ? This all works beautifully allowing me to manage my server from my blackberry wherever I am, but I have been wondering if I have opened myself up to any security risks by doing this. I have also opened up the port for unmenu.

I also recommend checking out Sonarr (for handling your TV shows) or Radarr (currently still in heavy development but is meant to be a mix of Sonarr and Couchpotato).I have recently set up my router to open ports for my installations of sabnzbd (https), sickbeard and CouchPotato so I can remotely administer them. Also, if you are unfamiliar with GIT then I wouldn't dive into it at this stage, if you are familiar with Couchpotato then I would recommend the binhex's standard docker. I recommend doing some reading and setting up an Unraid test rig to experiment with dockers and Unraid in general, that way you can test, learn and play all you want without messing up any data on your primary rig.

The best part of deluge is the fact you can install the client on your main PC or laptop and point it at the docker running on your Unraid server, it will act as a remote interface to deluge. You can set the download location to a 'cache-only' share and then tell deluge to copy completed torrents to a share/folder that has cache enabled but will be moved to your array when the mover is invoked. Binhex's docker makes it easy to get your torrents running through OpenVPN and has been pre-configured to work with PIA with only a few settings to input to get it operational with your PIA account.Ī simple recommendation that may save you some future hassles is to make sure your download location (incomplete torrents) is not on your main array, as you don't want your drives and parity to be constantly spinning. I tested numerous solutions and dockers and found the best one, for using OpenVPN with torrents, to be 'binhex-delugevpn'. Unraid has made great strides in the last few years and seems to keep getting better with more and more improvements and features, good to see more people getting on board :) I also made the switch to unraid from Windows about 2 years ago and haven't looked back. That's not to say it's not a great product, it's the best media focused NAS OS IMO. If you are new to Linux and dockers, Unraid can be a big learning curve.
